Welcome: how this course works. How the modules follow the eight ICF Coaching Supervision Competencies, and how the pause-and-decide practice works.
The ICF definition; Competency 1, Provides Ethical Guidance. Brigid Proctor’s three functions of supervision (normative, formative and restorative), and the four neighboring practices: coaching, mentor coaching, performance evaluation and therapy.
Competency 1, Provides Ethical Guidance. The codes and the context a coach works in, dilemmas before they become breaches, and boundaries under pressure.
Competency 3, Establishes and Updates Contracts; Competency 4, Manages the Supervision Process. The supervision contract, the limits of confidentiality, the CLEAR model (Contracting, Listening, Exploring, Action, Review) from Peter Hawkins, and re-contracting.
Competency 2, Engages in Ongoing Reflection and Self-Care. A four-stage reflective cycle adapted from Gibbs’s reflective cycle (1988), use of self, and restoring yourself.
Competency 5, Creates a Supportive Environment. Support and challenge, the dynamics between supervisor and coach, power and inclusion.
Competency 6, Facilitates Client Reflection. The Seven-Eyed model of supervision (Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet), parallel process, and the systemic lens.
Competency 7, Guides Client Development. The Integrated Developmental Model (Stoltenberg and Delworth) and adapting your stance to a coach’s level.
Competency 8, Manages Group Supervision. Four types of supervision group (Brigid Proctor and Francesca Inskipp), structured formats, airtime and inclusion. The final lesson looks at one session through all eight competencies.
