MINDSET & GROWTH TOOLS
Separate what you can change from what you're spending energy on.
Stress and anxiety rarely come from the situation itself — they come from treating everything in the situation as equally urgent, equally threatening, and equally yours to solve. The Zones of Awareness tool creates a spatial map that interrupts that pattern.
The three zones — what you control, what you influence, what lies outside both — already exist in any stressful situation. The exercise doesn't create structure; it makes the existing structure visible. Once you can see which zone holds the most of your attention, you can start making deliberate choices about where to direct your energy.
Most people discover that they're spending the majority of their energy in the outermost ring. That discovery is useful precisely because it's specific — you can't redirect energy you haven't located yet.
Action steps come only from the inner ring — your direct choices, words, and behaviors.
Before your next session: For the situation you mapped, what percentage of your mental energy has been going to the outer ring? What would shift if you redirected just a portion of that inward?
