Session Q&A
Template

Coaching Practice Tools

A blank four-question template for pre-session preparation or session debrief.

Where This Tool Helps

This template gives clients a structured format for working through four questions in writing before a session or immediately after. The act of writing forces more precision than talking - clients who have done this kind of preparation consistently report that sessions move faster and go deeper because they arrive with something already clarified.

The coach or client can write the questions in advance, or the questions can emerge from a previous session as homework. Either way, having the answer in writing before the conversation starts changes the quality of the coaching exchange.

The brief question field is intentional: the discipline of writing a question concisely is itself clarifying. Long, qualified questions often contain their own resistance.

How to Use This Template

  1. In the question field, write a concise version of the question you’re working on. One sentence is sufficient.
  2. In the answer area, write your current thinking on that question. Don’t aim for a final answer - aim for an honest account of where you are with it.
  3. Complete all four questions before reviewing any of them. Reading back across all four together often surfaces connections between questions.
  4. Bring the completed template to your next session. Your coach may use the questions and answers as the session entry point.
  5. If questions are assigned by your coach, complete the answers within 24-48 hours while the session context is still fresh.
