The "I used to... / I will no longer... / Because I will..." structure forces three separate moves in sequence: name the old pattern clearly, make a direct commitment to stop it, and replace it with something specific enough to actually do. Vague intentions don't change behavior. Specific commitments do.
Writing down a commitment creates a different kind of accountability than thinking one. The act of completing each sentence stem requires you to get concrete - you can't finish the third stem with a vague goal. That pressure is the point.
