Present, Goals
& Ideal Day

Coaching Practice Tools

Three prompts that move from current state through annual goals
to a fully imagined ideal day.

Where This Tool Helps

These three prompts form a useful arc: where you are physically right now, what you want to accomplish over the next year, and what a perfect day actually looks like in concrete detail. Together they cover present embodied awareness, goal scope, and values-in-practice.

The "ideal day" prompt is often underestimated. Leaders who have done significant goal-setting work can still struggle to describe their ideal day in specific terms - what they’d be doing, who they’d be with, what the quality of their attention would be like. That specificity is worth the effort. The distance between someone’s current day and their ideal day is often the most direct route into a coaching conversation.

These prompts work best as pre-session preparation or as a first-session intake exercise.

How to Use This Worksheet

  1. Start with the present-moment physical awareness prompt. Ground the reflection before moving to longer-range thinking.
  2. For the goals prompt, write all goals that come to mind - big and small - without editing. The instruction to include small goals is intentional; it often produces more honest lists.
  3. For the ideal day, write as specifically as possible. What time do you wake up? What’s the quality of your morning? What work are you doing and how? What are your interactions like? What does the end of the day feel like?
  4. Complete all three prompts before reviewing any of them. Reading back across all three together is more useful than evaluating each in isolation.
  5. Bring this to your next session as intake material.
