REFLECTION & JOURNALING TOOLS
Rate each prompt before writing to separate where you are
from what you want to say about it.
Most journalling goes straight from question to prose. The problem with that is the writing can settle into a familiar story before you have really assessed the situation. Adding a rating step first does something different: it produces a data point before the interpretation begins.
When you rate a prompt before writing, the number and the words often diverge. You rate your satisfaction with a relationship at a 7, then write three paragraphs about frustration. That gap is useful. It tells you something the writing alone would not have surfaced.
This format works best for recurring topics - areas where you have a habitual narrative and want to check whether the narrative still reflects reality. The rating interrupts the reflex to write what you always write.
