ADHD Executive Function Tools
A weekly grid for distributing household tasks
across family or household members.
Most households have one person who tracks everything - who notices the trash is full, who remembers the bathroom needs cleaning, who mentally schedules laundry around everyone else's week. That person usually does not choose the role. It accumulates.
ADHD compounds this in both directions. The person with ADHD may struggle to initiate tasks without a visible cue, so responsibilities drift toward whoever acts first. Or they may hyperfocus on cleaning as a form of avoidance, taking on far more than their share without anyone noticing the imbalance. Either way, the distribution stays invisible until it becomes a source of conflict.
A grid does something a conversation cannot: it puts the split on paper where everyone can see it. Columns that are full next to columns that are sparse tell a story no one has to argue about.
1. Write household members across the top. Use the blank column headers for up to 4 people.
2. Assign tasks by day. Distribute cleaning tasks so no one person is overloaded on any single day.
3. Balance the load visually. If one column is full and another is nearly empty, redistribute before the week starts.
4. Review weekly. Use the Month/Week Of fields to track which week this covers. Print fresh copies as needed.
5. Include everyone who is able. Even small contributions from younger household members build shared ownership.

Now that you can see it:
Look at the completed matrix. Whose column is fullest? Does that match who is actually doing the most, or who is best at remembering to write things down?
Which tasks have no clear owner - the ones that get done "by whoever gets to it"? Those are the tasks most likely to fall through or become a point of tension.
