MINDSET & GROWTH TOOLS

Map the feedback loop that connects what you believe to what you get.

The Loop That Runs Itself

The cycle moves in one direction: Belief generates Thought, Thought drives Behaviour, Behaviour produces Action, Action creates Results. What makes the loop powerful - and often invisible - is that Results circle back and reinforce the Belief that started it. A belief that something is impossible produces results that confirm it. A belief in a specific kind of ceiling tends to find evidence of that ceiling everywhere.

This worksheet makes that loop visible in a specific situation. Not as a general observation about mindset, but as a map of a pattern that is already operating. The question at the bottom is the practical one: once you can see the loop, where would you intervene to disrupt it?

How to Use This Worksheet

  1. Name the belief first, not the result. The temptation is to start with what happened and work backward. That approach tends to produce surface-level entries. Start with the belief - even if you are uncertain about it - and work forward through the cycle.
  2. Write what you actually think, not what you intend to think. The belief node is for the operating assumption, not the aspirational one. "I should trust my team" is an intention. "I will need to fix this if they handle it" is a belief.
  3. Be specific at each node. Vague entries at any step make the rest of the cycle less useful. The more specific the Thought and Behaviour entries, the more traction you will get on the intervention question.
  4. Use the Notes space for what does not fit the cycle. Exceptions, complicating factors, or observations that do not belong in any specific node go there. These often turn out to be the most useful material in a coaching conversation.
  5. Bring the intervention question to your next session. The cycle is a diagnostic. Your coach can help you identify which node is the most leveraged place to interrupt the pattern.

Notes

What steps will you take to interrupt this loop? How can you reinforce a more useful belief, thought, behaviour, action, and result?

Before Your Next Session

Which node in the cycle was hardest to name honestly? That difficulty is usually pointing at the most important place to look.
